Arts school student auditions for ‘American Idol’

For the second season in a row, a Mississippi School of the Artsstudent could be bound for glory on the popular reality televisionprogram “American Idol.”
The student has not been identified and MSA officials could notcomment on his appearance on the show.
The student performed for judges last summer during the Chicagoround of auditions, footage from which is scheduled to be shownTuesday night at 7 o’clock on Fox, and was reportedly approved tocontinue to the next round of auditions in Hollywood.
It is not known if or how much television airtime the studentmay receive on tonight’s show.
Some performances – both good and bad – are shown and somecontestants are even interviewed about their goals and ambitions.Contestants who receive “golden tickets” to Hollywood are oftenseen bounding out of the audition room or in other celebrationmontages.
Last season on “American Idol,” Jasmine Murray, now a senior atMSA, impressed judges and advanced all the way to the show’s Top13. Murray, of Columbus, was honored both locally and statewide forher success on the show.
Murray and other members of the MSA choir are currently in NewYork and are scheduled to perform tonight at the famed CarnegieHall. This year is the third time in the last five years that thechoir has been chosen to be part of an ensemble there.
