James Ellis ‘Sonny’ Smith

Services for James Ellis “Sonny” Smith, of Sontag, are 2 p.m.Thursday, Nov. 12, at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Sontag with burial inthe church cemetery.
Visitation is Wednesday from 1 until 7 p.m. at Williams Mortuarywith family present from 6 until 7 p.m.
Mr. Smith, 74, died Nov. 5, 2009, at Fort Walton Beach MedicalCenter in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. He was born in Wesson on Dec. 19,1934, to J.L. Smith and Eula Mae Alexander Smith Black.
He attended Mt. Zion Community School and Friendship HighSchool. Mr. Smith retired from the Lawrence County SupervisorsDistrict III in road construction. He was also self-employed formany years as a logger. Mr. Smith was also a U.S. Army veteran. Hewas a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church and served on the financecommittee.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Marvia DavisSmith; and a set of twins.
Survivors are his sons, James Ellis Smith Jr. and wife, Darlene,of Navarre, Fla., and James Lenyoun, of Atlanta, Ga.; hisdaughters, Ethel M. Smith, of Fort Walton Beach, and ChristineCraig and husband, Melvin, of Atlanta; a brother, Jerry Black andwife, Terry Elaine, of Wesson; his sisters, Ether Rene Moore, ofSan Antonio, Texas, and Alma Mitchell, of Hammond, La.; his eightgrandchildren; his four great-grandchildren; a godchild; his twoaunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives andfriends.
