Hunt sparks Bulldogs to win over Jefferson

FAYETTE – Over the last four years Franklin County seniorlinebacker Frank Hunt has experienced the good and the bad as aBulldog. From starting as a freshman on the 2006 Class 3A StateChampionship team to finishing South State runner-up last year,Hunt has been a catalyst for the Dawgs.

Friday night against rival Jefferson County, the 6-foot,220-pound Hunt produced one of the most memorable defensivedisplays in quite some time as the Dawgs beat the Tigers 14-0behind 10 tackles, a blocked punt, a fumble recovery, a sack, and asafety by Hunt.

“I just went out there and did what I had to do for us to win,”said Hunt. “We got to keep it up in the playoffs.”

The victory sealed Franklin County (8-3, 4-1) the runner-up spotin the powerful Region 7-3A behind region champion Tylertown. TheBulldogs will play host to Velma Jackson (Region 6-3A No.3 seed)Friday at 7 in Meadville’s Louie Mullins Memorial Stadium.

Jefferson County (4-6, 3-2) will travel to Morton to begin the3A playoffs Friday. The Tigers were held to a mere 11-yards oftotal offense by Franklin County’s fearless, hitting crew despiterushing the ball 33 times.

“Our defense played extremely well,” said FC head coach TrentHammond who watched his Dawgs collect three safeties in thegame.

From the opening play, the Bulldogs set the tone as Huntcollected the first safety with a big hit in the end zone. FCHSadded a 5-yard touchdown run by senior Darnell Ford and a two-pointconversion scamper by Milton Griffin to take a 10-0 lead intohalftime.

Ford, a 5-9, 165-pound speedster led all rushers with 71 yardson 15 carries. He is closing on 1,000 yards for the season.

In the second half, senior linebacker Tevin Thomas stepped upand made two safeties for the Dawgs. Thomas was aided by seniordefensive tackle Bobby O’Quinn who blocked a punt and forced afumble. Both O’Quinn and Thomas had five hits in the game.

Senior LB LaDarrious Hunt added eight tackles and twoquarterback hurries. Alec Fleming recovered two fumbles and addedfour tackles.
