WESSON – Better late than never.
The 2009 football season finale for the Co-Lin Wolfpack andHinds Community College was postponed until Saturday because theEagles played a rain-delayed Sunday game. Saturday’s 2 p.m. kickoffon the Raymond campus is a South Division game.
In an unusual turn of events, the Hinds game at Gulf Coast inPerkinston last Thursday night was postponed due to a severethunderstorm that inundated the already-wet field. As expected,Gulf Coast (7-1, 5-0) smashed Hinds 41-6.
Co-Lin head coach Glenn Davis said Hinds set the Saturday gametime, with no input provided by administrators with the MississippiAssociation of Community/Junior Colleges.
“Hinds called and told us when we were going to play,” saidDavis. “It’s their home game but the (league) commissioner shouldhave been involved.”
The Eagles (3-5, 1-4) have fallen on hard times. Once anationally-ranked, South Division powerhouse, the Eagles finished1-8 last year, forced to forfeit a two South Division wins becauseof an ineligible player.
Hinds athletic director Gene Murphy came out of retirement topick up the pieces left behind by J. Mike Smith who resigned.Murphy’s wife, Dot, returned to the staff as wide receiverscoach.
Davis said the Eagles would provide a stiff test for his team.”Hinds has some ability. They have been in some close ballgames andlost some tough ones. We will have to fight out tails off to beatthem up there.”
Davis compared Hinds to Gulf Coast because of the physicalskills. “Hinds is kind of like Gulf Coast because they are veryphysical runners.
The Eagles count on two quarterbacks, Les Lemons (5-9, 180, fr.)of Vicksburg and Wesley Mounger (5-9, 160, soph.) of Clinton. Bothare quick and explosive.
Lemons has rushed for 30 yards and passed for 480 yards thisseason, accounting for 8 touchdowns. His favorite target is widereceiver Treyvias Alexander (6-2, 200, soph.) of Breaux Bridge, La.Co-Lin defensive coordinator Brett Shufelt labeled Alexander “abig-time player.”
Shufelt said Anton Taylor (5-10, 210, soph.) from JacksonProvine, “is a big, physical running back who was a 60-meter dashnational champion. He might be the fastest guy in the state.”
Taylor has rushed for 637 yards and 3 TDs.
“It’s a rivalry game for us because we have so many kids whoplayed against them in high school,” said Shufelt.
He said the Pack would be minus some starters Saturday. Outsidelinebacker Charles (Bobo) Rancifer will miss a second straight gamebecause of an ankle injury. End Josh Tillman has the flu and tackleBo Tillman aggravated a knee injury.
Overall, Co-Lin’s defense ranks second overall, allowing 261yards per game. The Wolves are No. 1 in pass defense (134.8 ypg)and seventh in rush defense (126.5).

Working in the offensive line for the Wolves are Darion Smith atcenter, Bennie Peoples at left tackle, Pat Wallace at left guard,Joe Collins at right guard and Oscar Johnson at right tackle
“Hopefully, we can win three in a row,” said Davis. A victorywould give Co-Lin 5 wins in the last 6 games.
