Authorities search for shooting suspect

A Brookhaven man who sustained a gunshot wound to the face in ashooting that took place Wednesday night is in fair condition atthe University of Mississippi Medical Center Friday, officialssaid.

Brookhaven Police Chief Pap Henderson said his officers arelooking for an unnamed suspect in the shooting of Robert Wilcher,20.

The incident took place on East Chickasaw Street Wednesdayaround 10:30 p.m. Officials said Wilcher sustained what appeared tobe one gunshot wound to the face.

The suspect’s name is not being released pending his arrest.Henderson said Wilcher has been able to tell investigators enoughthat they know who they’re looking for, but not why the shootingoccurred in the first place.

“At this time, we’ve been unable to question him like we needto, so we don’t know the motive at this time, hopefully we’ll beable to talk to him some in the next few days,” Henderson said.

The victim was taken by ambulance to King’s Daughters MedicalCenter, and from there he was transported to UMC.

“The investigation is continuing,” Henderson said, adding thatonce a suspect has been arrested, further information will beavailable.
