Saturday night fire results in total home loss

A home in the New Sight community was destroyed in a Saturdaynight blaze, fire department officials said Monday.

New Sight Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief MichaelBeauvais said the home at 3751 Wild Hog Trail was fully involvedwhen units from Loyd Star and New Sight Volunteer Fire Departmentsarrived.

“When we got on scene, they had their jobs and we had ours, andwe just took care of it the best we could,” Beauvais said.”Basically we did a scene size-up to make sure power and gas arecut off, and to make sure it was safe for us to do initial attackon the structure.”

The home is owned by Dennis “Bo” and Betty McCaffery. Loyd StarAssistant Chief Josh Smith said they were not home at the time ofthe fire, which was reported sometime just after 10:30 p.m.

“The neighbor said she looked out and saw house was on fire andthey called us,” Smith said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Smith said.

Beauvais said the structure and all its contents were a totalloss. Red Cross was called to the scene.

Units remained at the home until the fire was contained, andleft the scene around 1:45 a.m., Smith said.
