Britt hired to direct Bogue Chitto baseball

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto baseball team will be under thedirection of a Lincoln County product in 2010. Jody Britt, 24, a2003 Loyd Star graduate, has been hired to coach the Bobcats.
“I’m real excited about the opportunity,” said Britt. “Icouldn’t think of a better county to get started in.”
He replaces Curt Crain who left after one year at the helm ofthe baseball and boys basketball teams. Crain has been hired tocoach basketball at Vancleave.
Crain’s baseball Bobcats advanced to the Class 1A state playoffslast season and were eliminated in the first round by East Webster,posting an 11-10 worksheet.
Britt, the youngest member of a baseball-minded family, playedtwo years of baseball at Co-Lin as an infielder when the Wolfpackadvanced to the NJCAA Division II World Series in 2005.
After Co-Lin, Britt played shortstop at Mississippi College. Heearned First Team All-American Southwest Conference recognition asthe Choctaws won the East Division.
In high school, Britt played for Sidney Wheatley at Loyd Star,earning All-County honors. Keith Case coached Britt at Co-Lin. Heplayed for coaches Lee Kurykendall and Brian Owens at MC.
Britt graduated from MC with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology.He has a special degree in coaching and physical education. He willteach junior high science at Bogue Chitto.
“Bogue Chitto has a great athletic tradition,” said Britt. “Iknow we will have a young baseball team.”
His older brother, Kevin Britt, is a middle school principal inthe Hattiesburg area after working as a coach at Petal for severalyears.
