Bennett was named Parent of the Year for Loyd Star and thedistrict alltogether for several reasons. “I don’t do this to receive any accolades – it’s basically forthe kids,” Bennett said. “I drive a school bus, and I see some kidswho have to get themselves out of bed and stand there by the road,by themselves, and their parents may never know if they got on thebus or not. They’re at the mercy of the world. So, I keep pencilson my bus if they need a pencil; I keep snack money to give themfor snacks. I want them to know there are parents out there that dostill care.”

Bennett has two children attending Loyd Star – her son Jarred, asenior; and daughter Kaylon, an eighth-grader.

Other Parent of the Year award recipients were Bogue ChittoAttendance Center’s Susan Greer, Enterprise Attendance Center’sMarsha Everett and West Lincoln Attendance Center’s JasonWilson.
