BA netters capture South State AA title

Brookhaven Academy’s boys and girls captured their respectivedivisions in the MPSA Class AA South State Tennis Tournament heldTuesday at the Brookhill courts. BA won South State Boys by amargin of 10.5 to 6 over Copiah, winning every event in which ithad a qualifier. The BA girls won 9.5 to 6 for Copiah.

Brookhaven Academy, coached by David Misner, will participate inthe Class AA State Tournament next Wednesday, at Parham BridgesTennis Center in Jackson.

In No. 1 boys singles finals, BA’s Will Hickman beat Hamilton ofChamberlain-Hunt 6-0, 6-2.

In No. 1 doubles, Brookhaven’s Alex Gray/Myles Melancon beatPyron/Hawkins of Copiah 6-4, 6-4. No. 2 boys doubles saw BA/s JakeBaker/Austin Watts beat Denson/Smith (Copiah) 6-1, 6-1

In No. 1 girls singles, BA’s Rosemary Moak beat Noble(Riverfield) 6-4, 6-4. In No. 2 singles, Terah Winborne beat Ham(Columbia) 6-1, 6-1.

In No. 1 girls doubles, BA’s Katie Beth Case/ Emily Ryan lost toBeach/Davies (Copiah) 6-3, 6-0

In mixed doubles, BA’s Dudley Lampton/Nicole Smith beatMagee/Kelly (Simpson) 6-0, 6-1.
