Services for Sam Warren Davis, of Wesson, are 11 a.m. Monday,April 27, at Sylvarena Baptist Church with burial in SylvarenaCemetery. Stringer Family Funeral Services is in charge ofarrangements.
Visitation is Sunday from 5 until 8 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m.until the time of the service. Both visitation services will beheld at the church.
Mr. Davis, 91, died April 25, 2009, at Oliver House in Wesson.He was born in Bowie, Ariz., on Oct. 11, 1917, to Grover and InaDavis. He and his wife, Alice Hutson Davis, were married on Nov.23, 1941, at the old Sylvarena Baptist Church.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II.After the war, he and his wife settled in the Sandhill communityeast of Wesson. They both worked for Mr. Marion D. Fuller in hisbusiness, Wesson Machine and Supply, until Alice started teachingin Wesson Public Schools.
In 1949, they started operating their own dairy farm on the oldSmith Ferry Road (now Timberlane) near Wesson and Beauregard. In1953, they moved to Jackson, where Mr. Davis was a fieldrepresentative for Blue Ribbon Dairy (later Pet Milk) while Mrs.Davis worked for the State Tax Commission until they retired.Recently, they moved to Oliver House, a personal care facility inWesson.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Alice Hutson Davis.
Survivors are his sister, Joy Davis Patterson; his nephews,Ronnie Davis, of New Orleans, La., and Sam Davis, of Oxford; hisnieces, Karen Patterson Kurr, of Oxford, and Kay Patterson Olliver,of Jackson; and many great-nieces and great-nephews, including KyleJackson, Kurt Jackson and Craig Jackson, all of Wesson.
Pallbearers will be Kurt Jackson, Kyle Jackson, Sam Davis,Ronnie Davis, Bruce Summy, Allen Kurr and Danny Stegall.
