BHS second in division; faces Long Beach next

FLORENCE – The Brookhaven Panthers swept a pair of Division 6-4Abaseball games from the Florence Eagles Thursday night.
Brookhaven crushed Florence 17-3 in the 5-inning opener and 11-0in the 6-inning finale.
The Panthers, coached by Randy Spring, finish the regular seasonwith a 20-6 record and are 15-3 in the division.
This Friday night, No. 2 seed Brookhaven travels to Long Beachfor the first game in the opening round of the state playoff’sbest-of-three series. The remaining games will be played Saturdayat Moyer Field in Brookhaven. Game times will be announced.
In the Division 6-4A, Lawrence County finished first, followedby Brookhaven, McComb and Mendenhall.

Posting the win in the first game was souhpaw Brandon Foster(7-2) with 1 strikeout, 6 walks and 3 hits allowed.
Patrick Stewart started and took the loss with 5 runs allowed on5 hits, no strikeouts and 1 walk. Following Stewart to the moundwas Sam Vincent.
Powering the Panthers at the plate with 2 doubles and a singlewas Chris Seals. Gabe Wilson singled twice and doubled. JarvisWilbert singled 3 times. Collecting a pair of doubles was BudBritt. Zack Halliwell singled twice.
Brookhaven 11, Florence 0
Sophomore pitcher J.D. Britt (5-2) collected the win with 10strikeouts, 1 walk and no runs allowed on 2 hits.
Dillan Callahan took the loss.
Offensively, the Panthers were sparked on Helmstetter’s doubleand a pair of singles. Halliwell doubled and singled. Singlingtwice was Wilson. Nick Peavey, Bud Britt and Wilbert doubled.
