Delaughter fans 15 batters; Loyd Star wallops Wesson

Brooke Delaughter pitched a 15-strikeout, 1-hitter and the LoydStar Lady Hornets whipped Wesson’s Lady Cobras 7-1 Monday inDivision 6-2A fastpitch softball action at Loyd Star. She onlywalked 1 batter and that came in the first inning.

Abby Smith (1 K, 0 BB) started for Wesson and took the loss.Mackenzie Rials (3 K, 0 BB) replaced Smith in the fifth.

The Lady Hornets (10-0, 1-0) resumes play Thursday at Loyd Star,making up a game with Brookhaven. The JV game starts at 5 p.m.,followed by the varsity at 6.

The Lady Cobras got a first-inning RBI single from JessicaHaynes. She drove in Abby Smith who coaxed a leadoff walk fromDelaughter.

“We got our first district win and our girls played well,” saidLoyd Star coach Jan Delaughter. Her team didn’t commit an error inthe triumph.

Kara Smith doubled and singled for Loyd Star. Sarah Falvey andEmily Smith both singled twice. Haley Sones, Brittany Beeson,Carrie Moak and Natalie Keene doubled. Calleye Douglas andDelaughter singled.

Keene collected 2 RBIs in the victory.

Junior Varsity Action

Wesson and Loyd Star battled to a scoreless draw in 5 innings.Sarah Falvey and Lauren Norton collected his for the Hornets.

Brittany Wallace (8 K, 2 BB) pitched for Loyd Star.
