Smith hurls Wesson over St. Joe Bruins

WESSON – Sophomore pitcher Matt P. Smith struck out 11 battersand walked 3 to help the Wesson Cobras in a key 7-6 Division 6-2Awin over the Madison St. Joseph Bruins Tuesday night in baseballaction. Smith is 1-2 on the season.

Wesson (4-2) fell behind St. Joe 4-1 after three innings. TheCobras exploded for 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifthinnings to take a 7-4 lead.

The Bruins came back with 1 run in the top of the sixth andseventh innings to cut the deficit to 7-6.

Cody Crestman powered Coach Hugh Webb’s Cobras with a 3-run homerun in the fifth inning. Brandon Allen smashed a double and asingle. Also doubling was Smith.

Wesson travels to St. Joe Friday for 2 games. The junior varsitygame begins at 4:30 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6:30.
