Robert C. ‘Bob’ Allen

Services for Robert C. “Bob” Allen, of Ruth, were 11 a.m.Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel on NatchezDrive with burial in J.B. Russell Family Cemetery in Ruth.

Mr. Allen, 64, died Feb. 21, 2009, at his residence. He was bornin Lincoln County on Nov. 2, 1944, to Robert O. Allen and YvonneAllgood Allen.

He was a master carpenter, husband, father and grandfather. Hewas of the Baptist faith.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and a sister, SusanAllen Crane.

Survivors are his wife, Dorothy Russell Allen, of Brookhaven; ason, Jason Gunnell and wife, Mauri, of Hattiesburg; his daughters,Bonnie Brady and husband, Jason, of Ruth, and Nova York andhusband, David, of Brookhaven; his six grandchildren, Ryan Bateman,Justin Bateman, Katelynn Brady, Koby Brady, Thomas Gunnell andRussell Paul Gunnell; a nephew, Jason Crane; his nieces, StephanieThornhill and Jennifer Reeves; a great niece; and his five greatnephews.

Ruby P. Griffith Clark

Services for Ruby P. Griffith Clark, of Arkansas, are 2 p.m.Friday, Feb. 27, at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Hartford,Ark.

Visitation is Friday from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Clark, 96, died Feb. 22, 2009. She was born in Mansfield,Ark., on June 7, 1912, to Elmer and Mattie Griffith.

She was a lifelong resident of Brookhaven. She was a member ofFirst United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Carlos C.Clark; her brothers, Royce and Joe; and a sister, Ina.

Survivors are her sons, Terry Lloyd Clark, of Martinsville, Va.,Joe Phillip Clark and wife, Betty, of Corinth, and Glenn LowellClark, of San Diego, Calif.; her daughters, Carla Sue Clark McCall,of Brookhaven, and Mary Claire Clark Ward and husband, Raymond Jr.,of Vancleave; and her 10 grandchildren; her eightgreat-grandchildren; and a number of cousins and relatives in theFort Smith, Ark. area.

Carol Ann Fortenberry

Services for Carol Ann Fortenberry, of Wesson, are 2 p.m.Thursday, Feb. 26, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service Chapel withburial in Rocky Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Wesson.

Visitation is Thursday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Fortenberry, 62, died Feb. 23, 2009, at King’s DaughtersMedical Center in Brookhaven. She was born on Aug. 18, 1946, toGordon W. Fortenberry and Mattie E. Munn Fortenberry.

She was an income tax preparer.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her stepfather,Owen M. Smith.

Survivors are a son, Gordon Ray Miller; a daughter, Lisa AnnTewell; a brother, Marion “Toad” Smith; her sisters, Ruth M.Calcote and Rebecca M. Smith; and her two grandchildren, Haley A.Miller and Rachel N. Miller.

S.M. Hodges

S.M. Hodges left his earthly life Feb. 25, 2009, at his homesurrounded by his family. He was born on Aug. 18, 1923, to SimmieM. Hodges and Mattie Robison Hodges and was preceded in death byhis parents; his brother, Elwood Hodges; and his sister, Earline H.Bourn.

Mr. Hodges was a lifelong resident of Lincoln County andgraduated from Bogue Chitto High School in 1939 at the age of15.

After high school, S.M. worked for R.J. Reynolds Co. andLofton’s Department Store prior to enlisting in the U.S. Marines in1943. He was a World War II veteran serving in the South Pacificand in northern China. After being discharged he returned toLincoln County.

In 1956, Mr. Hodges opened Hodges Men’s Shop, which he operatedfor 39 years. He was also a dairy farmer and raised beef cattle andtimber. He was a member of various professional and civicorganizations including the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber ofCommerce, the Lincoln County Dairy Men’s Association, the LincolnCounty Forestry Association, the Civitan Club and the VFW.

Mr. Hodges was a loving husband, father, grandfather andgreat-grandfather who lived the American dream and encouraged thosehe knew to do the same. He is survived by his wife of 60.5 years,Marjory Summers Hodges; his two children, Michael Hodges, ofHouston, Texas, and Dixie H. Miller and husband, Jim, of BogueChitto; his three grandchildren, Jamie Miller and wife, Stacey, ofBogue Chitto, Amanda Stastny and husband, Eric, of Waltham, Mass.,and Johnathan Hodges Miller, of Lafayette, La.; and his threegreat-grandchildren, Max and Kinley Miller and Jacob Stastny. He isalso survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Clarmon and ThelmaHodges, of Brookhaven.

Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 26, from 5 until 8 p.m. atBrookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Drive. Services will be atPleasant Hill Baptist Church on Friday, Feb. 27, at 11 a.m., whereMr. Hodges was a lifelong member. The Rev. Floyd Higginbotham willofficiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Garry Hodges, nephew of Mr. Hodges; JerryRobison, cousin of Mr. Hodges; and his dear friends, Rodney Bond,Don Haralson, Ellis Williams and Bruce Richardson.

Katrina Marie Grant Barton Singletary

Services for Katrina Marie Grant Barton Singletary, of CrystalSprings, are 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at New Zion Baptist Churchin Crystal Springs.

Visitation is Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Singletary, 37, was called to home on Feb. 21, 2009. Shewas born in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Sept. 29, 1971, to John W. Grantand Theresa Grant Tynes.

She was employed at Faust-Arrington Insurance Agency inHazlehurst. She attended St. Francis School in Bend, Ore., St.Mary’s High School in Phoenix, Ariz., Copiah Academy in Gallman andgraduated from Lawrence County High School in Monticello. As achild, she was a 4-H member who raised and showed sheep and goatsand won numerous awards. She also was a youth square dancer. Shehad a great love for horses and was an avid rider.

Preceding her in death was her maternal grandfather, John C.Kiseraukas.

Survivors are her husband, Larry Singletary, of Crystal Springs;her daughters, Alexandria Marie Barton and Ana Singletary, both ofCrystal Springs; her sons, Adam Singletary, of Hattiesburg, and AbeSingletary, of Atlanta, Ga.; her father, John W. Grant, of Bend;her mother, Theresa Grant Tynes; her stepfather, Thad Tynes; herbrothers, Andrew J. Grant and wife, Julie, and Scott Tynes andwife, Terri, all of Jayess; her two half brothers, Joey and RossGrant, of Bend; a maternal grandmother, Margaret Kiseraukas, ofPhoenix; and her paternal grandparents, Wes and Carol Grant, ofQueen Creek, Ariz., and numerous uncles, aunts and nieces andnephews.

Margaret Estelle Smith

Services for Margaret Estelle Smith, of Mobile, Ala., are noonThursday, Feb. 26, at Mobile Memorial Gardens Chapel in Mobile withburial in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Smith died Feb. 21, 2009, at a Mobile health care facility.She was born on Aug. 19, 1923, to Clower and Verna Cain Smith.

She was a native of Brookhaven. She graduated from West LincolnAttendance Center and attended King’s Daughters Hospital NursingSchool prior to its closing because of World War II. She moved toMobile after her marriage in 1946.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband of 60years, William Jeff Smith.

Survivors are her two daughters; her brothers, Sidney Smith, ofWichita Falls, Texas, and Marshall Elaine Smith, of Brandon; herthree sisters, Hazel Anderson and husband, Howard, of Brandon,Maude Elsie Hollis Sisco and husband, Hollis, of Sevierville,Tenn., and Virginia Sisco and husband, Willie, of Hampton, Ga.; asister-in-law, O’Darria Loren Clem and husband, Loren, ofChattanooga, Tenn; her two granddaughters; and her threegreat-grandsons.
