Services for Ellen Ambeau, of Gonzales, La., are 2 p.m. Friday,Nov. 14, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Praireville,La., with burial in the Praireville Community Cemetery. AscensionFuneral Home in Gonzales is in charge of arrangements. The Rev.Gary Belsome will officiate.
Visitation is Friday from noon until 2 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. Ambeau, 89, died Nov. 12, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Hospital.She was born in Jackson on Jan. 20, 1919, to Phillip George andMary Elizabeth Hartman.
She attended Whitworth College in Brookhaven. She was employedwith Bell South Telephone in New Orleans. She and her husband,M.J., owned Ambeau’s Cleaners in Gonzales for 20 years. Mrs. Ambeauhad an identical twin, Elsie. She was in a harmonica band in schooland also played the piano. She also sung in the church choir.During her lifetime, she and her husband traveled to 12 countries.The couple also worked in top management together at American DryCleaners for seven years in Lima, Peru.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 62years, Milton J. “M.J.” Ambeau Jr.; and a twin sister, ElsieHartman.
Survivors are her children, Mary West-Winters, Robert Ambeau,John David Ambeau and Phyllis Roy; her seven grandchildren; and hersix great-grandchildren.
