BHS sweeps N. Pike

The Brookhaven High varsity basketball teams swept 2 games fromthe North Pike Jagaurs Tuesday night.

In the girls game, Kearra Collins pumped in 23 points to leadBrookhaven (1-1) to a 55-46 win over North Pike (1-1).

In boys action, Donaldmetric Blue and Frederick Fairman fired in14 points each to spark the Panthers (1-1) to an 83-40 victory overthe Jaguars (0-2).

Brookhaven visits Pearl Thursday for 3 games. The junior varsityboys begin at 5 p.m. The varsity games begin at 6.

Brookhaven 55, North Pike 46

In the girls game, Amber Dickey netted 12 points followed byAshley Gayten with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.Shareeka Hill pulled down 9 rebounds.

“It was a good win for us,” said BHS girls head coach FredaCraft. “My girls worked hard and I look for us to come together asthe year progresses. Shareeka Hill did an outstanding job tonightand she is just a ninth grader. I was proud of my girls forbouncing back after the loss we had Saturday.”

For North Pike, Oliva Kennedy led the way with 16 pointsfollowed by Jontesha Robinson with 10.

“We dug ourselves too big of a hole and we struggled to comeback,” said North Pike head coach Lance Golmon. “In the secondhalf, we played better and battled back. We need to play all fourquarters.”

Brookhaven 83, North Pike 40

In boys action, Chad Hall scored 11 points and pulled down 8rebounds for the Panthers. Tops off the backboards with 11 reboundswas Desmond Arnold.

“My kids played hard,” said Panther head coach Ronald Hines.”North Pike has a good squad. We managed to bounce back after theloss Saturday. Everyone hustled and had a good game tonight.”

Directing the Jags with 16 points and 8 rebounds was JacobMorgan. Spencer Yarbrough and Jermick Jordan netted 6 pointsapiece. Jordan also pulled down 7 rebounds.

“We are a young team,” said Jaguar head coach Keith Russ. “Wehave some football players returning. We’ve got to get ourselvesready to play basketball and learn the fundamentals.

” We will bounce back as the season goes on. Our main issue wasthat we missed too many free throws,” making 12 of 27.
