McComb jolts Lady Bears

Six errors came back to haunt the host West Lincoln Lady Bearswho dropped a 5-2 decision to the McComb Lady Tigers Tuesday nightin slowpitch softball action. McComb committed one error as McCombavenged a 14-1 loss to the Lady Bears in last Saturday’s WestLincoln Classic.
“We gave up 16 fly-ball outs,” said West Lincoln softball coachAndrew Redd. “We’ve got to do a better job getting the ball downand be more selective in our pitches.
” “We had too many girls who stayed up all night to roll yardsbefore the first day of school. And it is not fun now.”
“The winning pitcher was Chelsea Cannon with no strikeouts and 3walks. Jessica Franklin recorded no strikeouts and walked 1 batterin taking the loss.
” “Defensively, we stepped up and won the game,” said McCombcoach Cody Hall, a West Lincoln alumnus. “My girls gave me 100percent all seven innings. That is all I ask for.”
“Makayla Smith doubled to lead the Lady Bears who suffered theirfirst loss in 4 games. Keri Easley, Laina Laird, Karli Herringtonand Alexis Cook singled.
“Powering the Lady Tigers with 2 singles each were Emily Cothernand Chekea Cannon. Hitting safely were Lauren Mabila, VictoriaPrice, Ken Ashley and Megan Coney.
The Lady Tigers owned a 5-0 lead in the fourth.
Junior Varsity Action
The Lady Bears whipped the Lady Tigers 11-3 in JV action.
Shelby Lofton was the winning pitcher, fanning 5 batters andwalking 4. In the loss, Mabila had no strikeouts and 6 walks.
The Lady Bears were powered by Haley Ainsworth’s double andsingle. Kayla Beth Rushing singled twice. Tripling was JessicaFranklin. Taylor Crews and Taylor Lofton singled.
Directing the Lady Tigers with a triple and a single was KelseyDaniels. Raneka Felder hit safely.
“West Lincoln hosts Lawrence County Thursday night for twogames. The JV kicks off at 5 followed by the varsity at 6:30.
