A Pike County man was killed in a one-vehicle accident shortlyafter midnight Monday morning, Mississippi Highway Patrol officialssaid.

MHP Public Affairs Officer Sgt. Rusty Boyd said Ivy W. Barnes,39, of Fernwood Road, McComb, was thrown from his 2001 Yamaha YZFsport bike at 12:09 a.m. on Highway 51 about a tenth of a milenorth of Fernwood Road.

Boyd said Barnes was southbound and crossed the northbound laneof traffic before running off the left edge of the road.

“He overcorrected and came back across both lanes of traffic andwas thrown from the bike,” Boyd said.

The motorcycle then struck a culvert and burst into flames.

Boyd said Barnes was wearing his helmet. He was pronounced deadon the scene by Pike County Coroner Percy Pittman.

Pittman said Cook Enterprise Funeral Home in McComb will behandling the arrangements, which are incomplete.
