Smith lifts West Lincoln to win

Senior Holli Smith got the game-winning double to score KatieMullins from second base and give the host West Lincoln Lady Bearsan 11-10 non-division win over the McComb Lady Tigers Thursdaynight. Smith finished the game with 2 triples, a double and asingle.

West Lincoln’s Katie Mullins doubled to score 2 runs in theseventh inning to tie the game at 10-all before Smith’s gamewinning hit. The Lady Bears rallied for 3 runs in the seventh totake the win.

“I was glad for Holli to end it on a win,” said West Lincolncoach Andrew Redd. “She worked hard for six years to go out withthe game-winning hit in her last game as a senior. Our team playedwell. We made a few errors but we never gave up.”

The Lady Bears (9-8, 5-3) committed 5 errors and McCombcommitted 4 in the game.

West Lincoln outhit McComb 12-8 at the plate.

“We played a good game,” said McComb coach Kristi Bird. “Wefought back when we needed. Both teams battled hard.”

West Lincoln led McComb 3-1 in the first inning and 6-3 in thesecond. The Lady Tigers scored 4 runs in the fourth to take a 7-6lead.

The visitors added 3 runs in the top of the fifth to push theirlead to 10-6. The hosts cut the deficit to 10-8 with 2 runs in thebottom of the sixth.

Alexis Cooks started for the Lady Bears, striking out 1 batterand walking 10 in 3.1 innings. Shelby Lofton finished the game forthe win with 1 strikeout and 5 walks. Megan Coney absorbed the losswith 9 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Contributing to the West Lincoln win with a triple was Cook.Ashley McCaffrey and Lofton ripped 2 singles apiece. Taylor Crews,Keri Easley and Katie Mullins singled.

McComb got a triple and a single from Kelly Ford. CandiceChurch, Chelsea Cannon, Elizabeth Hay, Victoria Price, EmilyCothern and Megan Stogner singled.

Junior varsity action

McComb clipped West Lincoln 3-1. Kamry Creel (6K, 1BB) got thewin. Easley (1K, 4BB) absorbed the loss.

Makayla Smith homered and doubled for West Lincoln.

McComb got a single from Hanna Thompson, Jessica Scariano andBreena Talbert.
