BA hammers Columbia

Kolby Byrd launched a 3 RBI home run, a double and a singleThursday night to power the host Brookhaven Academy Cougars to an18-1 win in 4.5 innings with the Columbia Academy Cougars indistrict baseball action.

Brookhaven Academy(8-3, 3-1) visits Centreville Academy Saturdayfor a doubleheader. The junior varsity game begins at 1 p.m.followed by the varsity game.

“Our team hit the ball well tonight,” said Brookhaven Academycoach Steven Cooksey. “Caleb got a good hit as DH. Overall, we hada team effort tonight. I was proud of our effort.”

Brookhaven jumped on Columbia 2-0 in the first then went up 6-0in the second. The hosts carried a 10-1 lead into the fourth inningwhere they exploded for 8 runs and put away the visitors in the topof the fifth to end the game.

The winning pitcher was Jameson Wright (2-1) with 8 strikeoutsand 1 walk. Jamie Thweat (0-1) absorbed the loss with no strikeoutsand 7 walks.

Contributing to the Brookhaven win with a home run was CoreyDickerson. Will Gatlin doubled and singled. Collecting a doubleeach were Caleb Williams and Seth Cliburn. White also singledtwice. Hitting safely were Tyler Pardin and Chandler Rogers.

Columbia Academy (3-9, 0-2) got a pair of singles from JeremyLee. Tyler Fortenberry singled.
