Hornets sting Tigers in baseball action

Behind the pitcher of Evan Smith, the host Loyd Star Hornetshanded the McLaurin Tigers a 10-5 loss Thursday night in divisionbaseball action. Smith struck out 7 batters and walked 2.
Loyd Star improved to 7-0 with the win. The Hornets travel toMcLaurin today for two games. The junior varsity contest begins at4:30 p.m. followed by the varsity.
The Hornets,coached by Jonathan Breakfield, went up 5-2 over theTigers after two innings. Loyd Star picked up 2 runs in the fifthand 1 in the sixth for the 10-2 lead. McLaurin added 3 runs in thetop of the seventh.
Loyd Star committed 4 errors and McLaurin followed with 3.
Directing the Hornets at the plate with 2 doubles and a singlewas T.J. Floyd. Drew Weaver ripped 3 singles. Doubling and singlingwas John Smith. Cayce Falvey and John Floyd singled.
The losing hurler with 1 strikeout and 3 walks was starter JesseShows. Ryan Wheatley worked the final 3 2/3 innings.
Ryan Weaver and Brian Sarchagvin led the Tigers with 2 singlesapiece. Blake Nelson doubled. Singling were Michael Franklin, DevinAter and Greg Townsend.
