Cash taken, man hurt in store robbery

Investigations are ongoing in a Friday evening armed robbery ofa local business that left one employee injured.
Brookhaven Police Chief Pap Henderson said a black male enteredDirt Cheap on Schwem Ave. Friday around 8:45 p.m. and brandished ahandgun.
“The subject went in the store and committed a robbery with theweapon and assaulted the victim, not by shooting him but by hittinghim with the weapon,” Henderson said.
The chief said witnesses told him the gunman forced a maleemployee into the front office. A female employee and another maleemployee were both already in the office.
“From there he pushed him in and a young lady was in there andput the gun in her back as well,” Henderson said. “He put them bothon the floor.”
Henderson said it was at that point that the gunman used hisweapon to hit the second man in the back of the head as he sat at adesk with his back turned.
“He didn’t know why it was him that got assaulted,” Hendersonsaid. “The other witnesses don’t know why either.”
The injured employee was awake and responsive when the ambulancearrived. Henderson said the robber made off with an undisclosedamount of money.
Authorities are looking for a slender black male, close to 6feet tall. The night of the robbery he was wearing a black hoodie,a black ski mask and gray Dickies pants.
Henderson said police have no suspects in the crime and that theinvestigation is ongoing. He also said authorities are asking thatanyone with information to contact the Brookhaven Police Departmentat (601)833-2424.
