16-year-old succumbs to injuries

An Enterprise Attendance Center student died Friday of injuriesshe sustained in an accident that also left several others injured,authorities said.
Freshman Paige Chemin, 16, of Wesson, died Friday morning in theemergency room at King’s Daughters Medical Center from multipleinjuries received in the accident that happened just before 8 a.m.near the school at the intersection of Highway 583 and TopisawDrive.
Authorities said a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by hersister Cocoa Chandler, 30, was attempting to turn left onto TopisawDrive from the southbound lane of Highway 583. The minivan wasstruck in a front-to-front collision, near where Chemin was seated,by a northbound 2006 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Shanan Case, 36, ofBogue Chitto.
The minivan tumbled backward and came to rest vertically in theeastern ditch of Highway 583.
Chandler and the minivan’s other two passengers, Jeremy Gill,11, and Joseph Franklin, 8, all of Wesson, sustained moderateinjuries but were later listed as stable at KDMC. Authorities saidall passengers, including Chemin, who had to be extracted using theJaws of Life, were wearing seat belts.
Case and her passengers in the truck, Skiar Case, 16, and HannaCase, a 6-month-old baby girl, were uninjured.
Visitation for Chemin will be Sunday from 5 until 9 p.m. atRiverwood Family Funeral Services Chapel. Funeral services will beMonday at 10 a.m., also at Riverwood, with burial following inHeuck’s Retreat Baptist Church Cemetery.
