14-year-old boy shot in head, recovering

A 14-year-old Brookhaven boy was shot in the head Friday eveningduring what witnesses said they believed was a dispute that beganon South First Street.
Police Chief Pap Henderson said a call came in around 5:20 p.m.reporting shots fired. As officers responded to the call on SouthFirst, another call came in from the area of West Court Street andNorth Jackson Street.
The victim’s name cannot be released as he is a juvenile. He waslaying on the ground next to the truck, which was being driven byanother juvenile, in front of Hollywood Beauty Mart when theambulance pulled up, witnesses said.
“The driver was taking the victim to the hospital,” saidHenderson. “He’s young and panicked, and just stopped there andasked them to call an ambulance.”
The boy was taken to King’s Daughters Medical Center. Officialssaid he was responsive at the scene, although he did not know theshooter’s identity.
Henderson said the victim was lucky since the shot, which isbelieved to have been intended for the 15-year-old driver of thevehicle, entered the back of his head and exited his ear. He wastreated at KDMC and released about three hours later.
Henderson said police have some viable suspects in theincident.
“Of course it’s still under heavy investigation at this time,and we have suspects,” Henderson said. “There will most definitelybe an arrest made no later than Monday.”
