Cobras sweep Enterprise

WESSON — The Enterprise Yellow Jackets and the Wesson Cobrasplayed a close first half. When the third quarter began, the hostswent on a 20-2 scoring run and never looked back on their way to a64-47 Division 6-2A varsity basketball win Friday night.
In the varsity girls contest, Wesson and Enterprise played thefirst quarter tight but the Lady Cobras kept the slim lead and heldon for a 43-31 victory over the Lady Jackets.
Wesson hosts Hinds AHS and Enterprise entertains Madison St. JoeTuesday night in more division action.
Wesson 64, Enterprise 47
The Wesson boys (15-8, 3-5) and the Enterprise boys (2-19, 0-6)were deadlocked 12-12 in the first quarter, At the half, the Cobrasetched out a slim 26-23 lead over the Jackets.
“We had a huge third quarter defense,” said Wesson boys coachRon Kessler. “We just went through the motions in the first half.In the second half, we played much better defense.”
Third quarter action saw Wesson launch a 20-2 run to carry a46-25 lead over Enterprise into the final frame.
Josh Hood powered Wesson with 15 points, including 5 treys.Scoring 14 points was Lonnie Reeves. Josh Hart finished with 8points and led off the backboards with 7 rebounds.
“I thought we played aggressive in the first half,” saidEnterprise boys coach Josh Bass, “I thought out team effort wasvery good. We made some bad decisions in the second half and thatwas the difference in the game.”
Leading the Jackets with 14 points and 5 rebounds was AustinEverett. Kevin Perry fired in 10 points, grabbed 6 rebounds andmade 4 steals.
Wesson 43, Enterprise 31
The Lady Cobras (15-11, 5-3) battled the Lady Jackets (9-13,4-6) in the first quarter to take a 10-9 lead. A late run in thefinal minute put Wesson up five points, 24-19, over Enterprise athalftime.
“Enterprise had a real good game plan,” said Wesson girls coachHugh Webb. “They ran the Diamond and One. They put the pressure onAnn Shelby Davis. But we had other girls to go to. It was a big winfor us.”
A 12-8 run in the third quarter gave the hosts a 36-27 leadgoing into the fourth quarter. Wesson secured the win with a 7-4run down the stretch.
Powering the Wesson girls with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 5steals was Davis. Macie Case pumped in 11 points and grabbed 5rebounds. Following with 9 points and 7 rebounds was DanielleTadlock.
“My girls gave a good effort,” said Enterprise girls coach JillNations. “We have to make more of our open shots.”
Tara Paden led the Lady Jackets with 10 points. Following with 8points, 8 rebounds sand 5 steals was Lacey Orr.
Junior varsity action
The Wesson boys pulled away for a 32-21 win over Enterprise.Leading Wesson with 10 points was Zach Fetcko. Jeromy Smith netted7.
Enterprise got 4 points apiece from Thomas Allen and TaylorEverett.
In the girls game, the Lady Cobras handed the Lady Jackets a28-19 defeat. Hannah Selman and Shenque Brown led Wesson with 6points apiece.
Leading Enterprise with 4 points was Karla Hux.
