Loyd Star savored some revenge Saturday night for losses to WestLincoln in last week’s Lincoln County Round-Robin Tournament. TheLoyd Star Lady Hornets placed 4 players in double figures Saturdaynight as they posted a 60-48 win over the visiting West LincolnLady Bears.

In the varsity boys game, the Hornets got a game-high 23 pointsfrom center Rickey Barnes and held off a late run by the Bears fora 59-52 victory. Barnes also collected 6 rebounds and blocked 2shots.

Loyd Star 60, West Lincoln 48

Powering Loyd Star with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals and 7assists was Shannon Chester. Haley Sones had a double-double of 14points,10 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Dakota Brooks alsodouble-doubled with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Following with 10points and 5 steals was Shuntell Dillion.

Loyd Star visits Enterprise Tuesday night for Division 6-2Aaction. The junior varsity girls game begins at 4 p.m. followed bythe JV boys, varsity girls and varsity boys.

Loyd Star 60, West Lincoln 48

The Loyd Star girls (11-2, 2-0) jumped on West Lincoln in thefirst quarter for a 15-4 lead. At halftime, the hosts commanded a38-20 lead.

“We played a more complete game,” said Loyd Star girls coachBilly Vaughn.

Assisting in the Hornet win with 9 points, 7 rebounds, 5 stealsand 7 assists was Laura Britt.

Keri Easley directed Coach Lane Young’s West Lincoln girls with14 points. Talashia Fells finished with 13 points. Netting 9 pointswas Tatianna Marshall.

Loyd Star 59, West Lincoln 52

“We played well tonight,” said Loyd Star boys coach Gene(Moochie) Britt. “Our inside game was really good. We picked up thetempo in the second half and got some easy baskets.”

The Hornets (11-2, 2-0) led 14-9 in the first quarter andcommanded a 33-27 lead at the half. A 17-9 run by the Hornets inthe third quarter gave them a 50-36 lead going into the finalframe.

Following Barnes in scoring for the Hornets was Ashton Fox with16 points and 6 steals. Netting 10 points was McKinley Hamilton.Tops off the backboards was Ron Jones with 11 rebounds, 4 stealsand 2 blocked shots.

The Bears got 22 points from Aaron Collins followed by JeremyByrd with 12.

Junior High Action

The Loyd Star girls rolled over West Lincoln 34-20. JordanWilliams led the Hornets with 16 points. Courtney Watts and TyishaPatterson finished with 8 points apiece.

West Lincoln got 9 points from Carlie Acy and 8 points fromMarissa Pruski.

The Bears crushed the Hornets 44-23, powered byCardell Porter’s game-high 21 points.

The Hornets got10 points from Austin Freeman. Anthony Durrnetted 9 points.
