Services for Elaine Tarver Barber, of Slidell, La., are 10 a.m.Monday, Nov. 26, at Honaker Funeral Home in Slidell with burial inWesson Cemetery.

Visitation is Sunday from 6 until 9 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m.until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Barber, 85, died Nov. 23, 2007, at her residence.

She was raised on a farm west of Brookhaven and was a graduateof Brookhaven High School and Copiah-Lincoln Junior College. Shereceived a B.S. degree in Vocational Home Economics from theUniversity of Southern Mississippi and an M.S. degree in InteriorDecorating from Oklahoma State University.

Mrs. Barber taught high school home economics for two years,college home economics for three years, and then pursued a life ofhomemaking, raising her four children and enjoying church andcommunity activities. She taught various preteen groups in Sundayschool and Vacation Bible School in several Baptist churches over aperiod of 50 years.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Slidell, La. She hada love and appreciation for the beauty of nature and was active ingarden clubs and in her own garden. Her life can best be describedas one of contentment with a deep sense of thankfulness for God’sblessings and focusing on the positive.

Survivors are her husband of 61 years, Ernest Clark Barber; herchildren, Sherry Eaton, Janet Heikkila, Nancy Williams, KevinBarber; and 10 grandchildren.
