Southwest trips Hinds

SUMMIT — The Southwest Mississippi Community College Bearscelebrated homecoming in a big way Saturday night with a 21-14South Division win over the Hinds Eagles. The Bears are coached byCharles Anthony.
The win improved Southwest’s record to 2-2 in the division and2-3 on the season. Hinds dropped to 1-3 in the South and 4-3overall.
Following a scoreless first quarter, Southwest scored a pair oftouchdowns for a 14-0 lead. Walter Moses connected with JohnnyThomas for a 12-yard TD. That score was followed by a 90 yardfumble recovery return by Cory Jackson. Les Mulkey kicked bothPATs.
In the third quarter, the Bears scored their third TD on a19-yard burst by Mason. Another Mulkey PAT made it a 21-0 lead with7:39 remaining.
Jarrod Fleming hit Vernon Wolfe on a 35-yard pass for a Hindstouchdown with 4:10 left in the third quarter and Parker Warekicked the extra point, cutting Southwest’s lead to 21-7.
The Eagles reduced the deficit to 7 points, 21-14, with 8:45left in the fourth quarter on a 3-yard run by Anton Taylor.
Southwest hosts Pearl River Thursday night for its final homegame of the year. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
