Hornets rally past North Pike

SUMMIT — Loyd Star quarterback Donald Shorter scored a pair oftouchdowns Friday night to lead the Hornets to a 28-18come-from-behind non-division win over the North Pike Jaguars.
>”I am very proud of my guys for hanging in there andfighting hard all four quarters,” said Loyd Star first-year headcoach Ryan Ross. “We had a couple of mishaps in the third quarterthat set them up for two scores. Everything seems like it was goingdown for us. But we kept fighting and pulled it out at theend.”
North Pike was leading 18-14 going into the fourth quarter whenLoyd Star came away with 14 unanswered points for the comebackvictory.
“My guys were not ready to play,” said North Pike first-yearhead coach Chris Smith. “I think they were overlooking Loyd Star,because it showed in the first half. We made too many mistakes.Loyd Star managed to capitalize on some of our mistakes.
“We waited too late to capitalize on Loyd Star’s downall in thethird quarter when we scored,” added Smith. “We were able to putLoyd Star away but we did not. We let Loyd Star hang around andthey put us away in the fourth.”
