Enterprise rallies past Richton

RICHTON — The Enterprise Fighting Yellow Jackets handed theRichton Rebels a 22-15 loss Friday night and improved their recordto 2-0 on the season. The Jackets are coached by Roe Burns.
Directing the Jackets to the win with 28 carries for 119 yardsand 2 touchdowns was sophomore tailback Deon Pendleton. CodyBrister rushed the football 7 times for 65 yards. Making 4 rushesfor 38 yards and a TD was Bradley Prather. M.T. Martin carried 5times for 19 yards.
“The kids fought back and won it at the end,” said Burns. “Wetook control of the game and scored two times. We stopped them thelast three times they had the ball. The key was we didn’t turn theball over.”
“The kids played hard and they didn’t give up,” added Burns. “Itwas a good win for us. A good learning experience for down theroad.”
Enterprise collected 12 first downs and 242 yards on 32 carries.They were penalized twice for 10 yards. Caleb Foster had 3 puntsfor a 32-yard average.
Richton (0-2), based in Perry County southeast of Hattiesburg,drew first blood at the 9 minute mark in the first quarter on an8-yard run by Devin Woods. T.J. Ames kicked the extra point for a7-0 lead. The Rebels lost their season opener 21-7 to Fruitdale,Ala.
In the second quarter, Pendleton scored from 5 yards out for theTD and M.T. Martin ran the 2-point conversion to give Enterprise an8-7 lead over Richton.
Richton took the lead for the last time at the 4:07 mark in thethird quarter. Nick Kitchen scored a 3-yard TD and Tyler Smith ranfor 2 points for a 15-8 advantage.
The Jackets struck twice in the fourth quarter for 14 points forthe 22-15 lead and eventual win. Bradley Prather exploded for a79-yard touchdown and followed with the 2-point conversion with10:10 left to play. With 2:04 on the clock, Pendleton scored thefinal TD of the game from 2-yards deep. The try for 2 pointsfailed.
Defensively, Jake Walker led the Jackets with 12 tacklesand a sack. Martin finished with 9 tackles. Making 8 tackles eachwere Taylor Allen and Trey Boyd. Michael Prather had 7 stops.Following with 6 tackles each were Taylor Herrington and TravisLeggett.
Enterprise travels to Mize Friday night. The game beginsat 7 p.m.
