Case pitches Lincoln Co. to 14s crown

SUMMIT — Riding a no-hit pitching performance by Tyler Case andthree solo home runs, the Lincoln County All-Stars beat Summit 7-1Wednesday night to secure the Dixie Boys 14s District Tournamenttitle. Case, catcher Travis Keene and leftfielder Jarrett Toddhomered as Lincoln County went 3-0 in the double-eliminationtournament.
Lincoln County advances to the Dixie Boys 14s State Tournamentat Hattiesburg. It begins Saturday, July 21. Lincoln County playsLaurel-Jones County at 9 a.m. in the opening round at CameronField, located in Kamper Park.
“Our boys really did well,” said Lincoln County manager LeeBarry. “We went 3-0. We made all the routine plays in the field andour pitching was really good.
“Our defense kept us in the first two games and our bats finallycame alive,” Barry continued. “They really started hitting theball.”
Case, a right-hander, struck out 7 batters and walked 2. Keenethrew out 2 Summit runners trying to steal second base.
Summit scored its only run in the bottom of the first. Asacrifice fly plated the run.
Lincoln County took a 2-1 lead in the second and cruised to thevictory, adding single runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings.Third baseman Gabe Wilson tripled and doubled for the victors. Casedoubled. Centerfielder Marquis Hayes singled.
Summit, which eliminated Natchez Tuesday night, was unable tosolve Case’s arsenal of pitches. Losing pitcher Zach Smith fanned 7batters and walked none.
