Wesson advances in DYB AAA subdistrict

Wesson took a giant step toward winning the Dixie Youth BaseballAAA North Subdistrict Six Tournament Monday night at muddy KeystonePark. Wesson’s All-Stars rallied past the Lincoln County AmericanLeague 8-7, plating 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth.
In the other game, Natchez eliminated Copiah County 4-3 andplays Wesson tonight at 8. In an elimination game tonight, theLincoln County Americans meet the National League at 6.

Wesson plated four runs its final turn at bat, scoring thewinning run on a wild pitch. The Americans had scored 4 runs in thetop of the sixth and led 7-4.
“We played good late and my boys never quit,” said Wessonmanager Jerry Hood. “Neither team deserved to lose. The AmericanLeague is a good team.
“We are going to enjoy this win tonight and get ready forNatchez,” Hood added.
Mac McQuage pitched the sixth inning and got the win in relief.He fanned 2 batters and walked 3.
C.J. Viramontez started on the mound for Wesson. He fanned 3batters and walked 4.
John Paul Jackson fanned 9 batters in the loss. He walked 3.
At the plate, Jonah Henderson homered for Wesson. Peyton Hoodtripled and doubled. Mack Smith had 2 hits. Colby Porter, JakeAlexander and McQuage singled.
“It was a tough loss for us,” said American assistant coach ChadYarborough. “Hopefully we can bounce back and make it out. Our boysplayed hard and didn’t quit.”
The Americans got 3 singles from Brett Calcote. Caleb Browndoubled. Chas Acy and Tanner Allen singled.
Natchez 4, Copiah Co. 3
Natchez also scored the winning run on a wild pitch and remainedalive in the tournament. Natchez will face Wesson for a second timein the tournament.
“Anyone could have won this game,” said Copiah coach Bill Lott.”It was a tough game. Both teams played well.”
Pitcher Quinton Logan picked up the win. He struck out 8 battersand walked 2. Thomas Garrity (1 K, 1 BB) got the save. Alex Skinner(3 Ks, 3 BBs) took the loss.
Offensively, Copiah was led by Tyler Lott who singled twice anddoubled. Ryan Drew tripled. Peyton Murphy singled twice. MattDorris, Ryan Traxler and Skinner singled.
“We managed to get some timely hits and good base running,” saidNatchez coach Ben Hewitt. “We had a good attitude and we playedrelaxed.”
Natchez was paced by Ben Hewitt who singled twice. KennethJordan, Christopher Jenkins, Lester Wells, Sardarious Anderson,Cameron Farmer and Garrity singled.
