Founders Day promises fun for kids and families

This weekend downtown Wesson will show Copiah and Lincoln Countya good time at the 18th annual Founders Day, which takes placeFriday and Saturday, June 8 and 9.
“Come out and enjoy Saturday with the Wesson community,” saidFounders’ Day spokesperson Claire Crow. “We’ve got lots of vendorsfrom all over, and you can enjoy the good food and the games andactivities we have going on that day.”
Friday night kicks off the festival with gospel music downtownfrom the Walley Family and Crossing Over, and Saturday brings thebig events and the parade. In case of rain, the concert will beheld at Wesson Baptist Church.
Event organizers are expecting attendees from all around theCopiah and Lincoln County area, as well as over 100 vendors. Therewill be live music, giveaways and games all day long.
The Founders Day Parade will be held at 11 a.m.
At 8 p.m. on Saturday there is a street dance to the sounds ofGhost Town, who headlines Saturday’s events.
“Streets will be blocked off and we’ll have the crowning of ourFounders Day Queen at 7:55,” said Crow. “Then we’ll have thenational anthem, then the band starts at 8.”
Crow said a big crowd-pleaser will be the Deal or No Dealgame.
“Deal or No Deal game is going on, and we’re having fourdifferent games where people can win up to $500 a game,” she said.Tickets for the game are available at Shop & Wash, AceHardware, and Copiah Bank.
The weekend also features an exhibit of historic memorabilia atWesson City Hall. Among the artifacts are a collection of Civil Warletters, and much of the emphasis of the exhibit revolves aroundthe 1940’s and WWII.
Historic videos will be shown on a rotating basis throughout theday as well in City Hall.
