Lady Panthers nip Lady Bears 3-1

Brookhaven outscored West Lincoln 3-1 in the ninth inning togive the visiting Panthers a 9-7 fastpitch softball win over theLady Bears Friday night.

Brookhaven led 5-1 after three innings. In the seventh, the LadyPanthers added another run for a 6-1 lead. The Lady Bears ralliedfor five runs to tie the game at 6-all. Neither team scored untilthe ninth inning.

Ole Brook outhit West Lincoln 11-9 at the plate. The Lady Bearscommitted 4 errors to the Lady Panthers 1.

Terri Hodges posted the win with 9 strikeouts and 8 walks. KaceySmith absorbed the loss, fanning 8 batters an walking 6.

“We made 2 errors in the second inning that cost us runs,” saidWest Lincoln girls coach Andrew Redd. “But my girls did a good jobcoming back.”

West Lincoln (6-5, 2-2) got a triple and a single from HolliSmith. Shelby Lofton doubled and singled. Collecting a pair ofsingles was Alexis Cook.

“My girls battled back at the end through adversity,” saidBrookhaven girls coach Chad Walker. “hats off to Weston Lincoln ontheir comeback.”

Katie Stewart powered the Lady Panthers (10-4, 3-1) with 4singles. Brianna Ashmore doubled and singled. Hodges singledtwice.

Junior varsity action

West Lincoln knocked off Brookhaven 4-2 in the JV game.

Katie Mullins and Marisa Pruski singled for West Lincoln. Cookwas the winning pitcher with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks.

Leading Brookhaven with 2 singles was Madeline Delaughter.Hitting safely were Sarah Ayers, Courtney Moore, Dana Herring andBrittany Bateman. Kelsey Freeman absorbed the loss.
