Lady ‘Cats cruise past Puckett

BOGUE CHITTO — The Bogue Chitto Lady ‘Cats are on their way tothe quarterfinals of the Class 1A South Playoffs after eliminatingthe Puckett Lady Wolves 65-57 Monday night in CalhounGymnasium.
Bogue Chitto (24-4) meets defending state champion Stringer at5:30 Thursday night in the quarterfinals at Pisgah. The winner willadvance to the semifinals Friday. Puckett finished the season witha 13-14 worksheet.
Other Lincoln County teams weren’t as fortunate Monday as Pisgahwhipped Enterprise 60-25 and Lake smashed West Lincoln 45-23. St.Al, the Division 7-1A champion, edged South Leake 49-47 lastnight.
“We played well defensively,” said Bogue Chitto girls coachChristi Terrell after the win. “Offensively, we picked up oureffort in the second half. I am proud of my girls effort.”
The Lady ‘Cats jumped on the Lady Wolves for a 17-10first-quarter lead. Puckett came back to outscore Bogue Chitto on a20-15 run to cut the deficit to two points, 32-30, at the half.
In the second half, the Lady ‘Cats went outscored the LadyWolves 33-27 to secure the big win.
Powering Bogue Chitto with a double-double was senior forwardKimberlee Thomas with 19 points and 21 rebounds. Also posting adouble-double was Shasta Porter with 12 points and 15 rebounds.Netting 11 points was LaToya Braxton. Devon Welch pulled down 7rebounds.
“Bogue Chitto’s 23 (Thomas) really hurt us tonight,” saidPuckett coach Curt Crain. “We could not control her. We did notblock out and rebound. Bogue Chitto’s 14 (Candace Avants) putreally good defense on my 25 (Mays) and kept her out of thegame.”
The Lady Wolves were led by Shanice Mays with 19 points. Firingin 15 points was Courtney Rhodes with 15 points.
