Nix qualifies for District Two post

A quiet week saw only one new candidate qualify for this year’scounty elections last week, according to documents from the LincolnCounty Circuit Clerk’s Office.

Jerry E. Nix qualified last week to join Ellis Dave Chatmon in achallenge for Bobby J. Watts’ post as District Two supervisor. Allthree candidates are Democrats.

Sheriff’s candidate Terry Harper and Donald R. Golmon, acandidate for supervisor, are the only Republicans in the Nov. 6general election. There are no independents.

Other candidates for county office include:

* Sheriff: Democrats Steve Rushing, the incumbent; Lynn Boyteand B.W. Pitts and Harper, a Republican.

* Supervisor District One: Incumbent the Rev. Jerry Wilson.

* Supervisor District Three: Incumbent Nolan EarlWilliamson.

* Supervisor District Four: Incumbent Doug Moak, Eddie Brown andCharles Davis.

* Supervisor District Five: Incumbent Gary Walker and Golmon, aRepublican.

* Chancery Clerk: Democrats Tillmon Bishop, the incumbent, andMaxine McCoy Jones.

* Circuit Clerk: Incumbent Terry Lynn Watkins.

* Tax Assessor/Collector: Incumbent Nancy Jordan.

* Justice Court Judge Post One: Ralph Boone, Art Likens, ValerieShelby-Sterling and Trisha Jordan Weeks.

* Justice Court Judge Post Two: Carl Brown, Andrew Graham, ChrisKing and Ann Reeves.

* Coroner: Incumbent Clay McMorris.

* Constable Post One: Incumbent Charles Ralph Smith, KellyPorter and Don Smith.

* Constable Post Two: Incumbent Lavon Boyd.

* Superintendent: Incumbent Terry Brister.

* District Attorney, 14th Circuit Court District: IncumbentDewitt “Dee” Bates Jr.

* District 39 Senator: Incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith.

* District 53 Representative: Incumbent Bobby Moak.

Incumbent District 92 Rep. Dr. Jim Barnett is expected toannounce soon his decision whether he will seek re-election.

The candidate qualifying period will remain open until March 1.Primaries will be held Aug. 7 with an Aug. 28 runoff, if necessary.The general election will be held Nov. 6.
