Services for Jonah Ripley “Uncle Rip” Smith, of Bogue Chitto,are 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at the Natchez Avenue location ofBrookhaven Funeral Home, with burial in Highway 84 Church of ChristCemetery in Brookhaven.

Visitation is today from 5 until 9 p.m. at Brookhaven FuneralHome, Natchez Avenue.

Mr. Smith, 56, died Jan. 5, 2007, at his residence. He was bornon Sept. 14, 1950, to Grafton C. Smith and Dorothy N. Smith.

He worked with Yellow Freight Trucking Co. for 18 years. He wasa member of Highway 84 Church of Christ.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors are his wife of 34 years, Nelda Smith, of BogueChitto; his mother-in-law, Catherine Stricklin, of Brookhaven; hisbrothers, Glynn C. Smith and wife Sue, of Brookhaven, Jimmie C.Smith and wife Cindy, of Harrison, Ark.; his sisters, Patsy SmithCase and husband Kenneth, of Brookhaven, Joycelyn “Joy” SmithNichols and husband Richard, of Birmingham, Ala., Caron Smith Smithand husband Dwight, of Clever, Mo., and Donna Smith Jones andhusband Steve, of Byram; his sisters-in-law, Lavonne Brumfield andhusband Charles, JoAnn Herrington and husband Ray, all ofBrookhaven, and Judy Bowman and husband Jerry “Bo,” of Hattiesburg;his special uncle, Allen Smith; his special friends, Kirby Case,Claude Perrett and Laverne Lea; his 21 nieces and nephews and 38great-nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Kennon Case, Kelby Case, Korey Case, StevenBrumfield, Dave Griffin, Keith Cline and Casey Carter.
