William Jefferson Smith

Services and burial for William Jefferson Smith, a native ofBrookhaven and a resident of Mobile, Ala., for the past 60 years,were Nov. 17, at Mobile Memorial Gardens. Radney Funeral Homes ofMobile was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Smith died Nov. 14, 2006, at Providence Hospital. He wasborn on Dec. 9, 1919.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and servedin the South Pacific. After his discharge, he returned to Mobileand worked at Brookley Air Force Base until 1966, after which hebegan work with the Department of Defense and worked in severallocations before retiring and moving back to Mobile. He and hiswife spent several years traveling in their motor home to all ofthe continental states. For their 50th wedding anniversary, theytook a weeklong cruise to Alaska.
Survivors are his wife of 60 years, Margaret E. Smith; hisdaughters, Brenda S. Parker, of Mobile, and Charlotte S. Rice, ofLewisville, Texas; his sister, O’Darria S. Clem, of Chattanooga,Tenn.; his two granddaughters; three great-grandsons, and manyother extended family and friends.
