Man killed in a.m. accident

A head-on collision this morning on Highway 550 resulted in onefatality and one injury, authorities said.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. Rusty Boyd said the accident wasreported today at 5:56 a.m. on Highway 550 about one mile west ofMacedonia Road. A truck traveling eastbound crossed over into thewestbound lane and collided with a car traveling west, Boydsaid.
“It is still under investigation,” Boyd said about theaccident.
Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris said he pronounced thecar’s driver dead at 6:45 a.m. The man’s name is being withheldpending notification of the motorist’s next of kin.
Brookhaven Fire Department Chief Bob Watts said Station Threewas notified at 6 a.m. that the Jaws of Life were needed at theaccident. On arrival, firefighters found that the Jaws were neededto remove victims from both vehicles.
Watts said the driver of the car was deceased when firefightersreached the accident.
Firefighters removed the truck’s driver, whose identity couldnot be confirmed, with the Jaws and Life and he was thentransported to the King’s Daughters Medical Center emergency room.Information on the driver’s condition was unavailable.
