Wayne Clarence Gandy, 79, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006,at his residence. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m., Thursday,at Stringer Family Funeral Services in Hazlehurst. Services will be10 a.m. on Friday at Stringer Family Chapel with burial in PoplarSprings Cemetery.
Mr. Gandy was a graduate of Union Consolidated School andattended Copiah-Lincoln Junior College. Mr. Gandy served in theU.S. Navy Seebees Division during World War II. He was retired fromIllinois Central Railroad Teamsters Local 891 Mr. Gandy was amember of the Mississippi Cattle Dog Association, and founder andformer president of both the Mississippi Stock Dog Association andGulf Coast Stock Dog Association and a faithful supporter of LoneStar Cattle Dog Futurity since its conception. He was a member ofthe Cattlemen Association, American Legion, Teamsters Union andlifetime member of the Copiah County Fair Association. Mr. Gandywas instrumental in the organization of Council School in CrystalSprings and helped organize Union Private School. He was a deaconand former Sunday school superintendent at Poplar Springs BaptistChurch. He was on the board of the Poplar Springs Baptist ChurchCemetery Committee.
Mr. Gandy raised and trained Border Collies for the past 20years. He ran field trials in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana,Mississippi and Alabama, winning numerous awards. He was the 2001Lone Star Cattle Dog Futurity Hall of Fame Handler.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bobby Jones Gandy; sons,Terry Gandy and wife Angie, Bob Gandy and wife Patricia, and PatGandy and wife Cindy, all of Hazlehurst; sisters, Wilda Davis, ofSulligent, Ala., Doris Armstrong, of Strong Hope, and Nancy Ashley,of Brandon; brother, Leman Gandy and wife Von, of Greenwood; fivegrandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
