Natchez shuts down Nationals

The Natchez All-Stars brought their long distance cards fromAdams County Tuesday night, in Day 5 of the Dixie Youth BaseballMajor League North Subdistrict 6 Tournament at Keystone Field.Natchez drilled a pair of home runs, accounting for all 5 runs intheir 5-0 win over the Brookhaven Nationals. They also held theNationals hitless.

The Nationals were held hitless for the second time in the inthe double elimination tournament by Natchez. Natchez defeated theNationals 14-0 to open play on July 6.

Natchez meets the Brookhaven Americans tonight at 7 p.m. for thetournament championship. These two teams have played twice, withNatchez taking the first game 3-0, while the Americans garnered a4-3 win Saturday night in 10 innings.

Natchez 5, Nationals 0

Natchez wasted little in taking an early 3-0 lead in the tophalf of the first. Leadoff batter Trevon Chatman singled.Christopher Perry reached first, as he was hit by a pitch. On a 2-1pitch with no outs, Jake Brumfield smashed a 3-run over the leftfield fence.

Natchez, coached by Spanky Brumfield, Boo Brumfield and LukeBrumfield, took a 5-0 lead in their half of the fourth. JakeBrumfield singled. Givonni Dent, on a 2-2 pitch with no outs, lineda 2-run blast over the left field fence.

It was another masterful pitching performance by Natchez’s ScottTurner and the Americans’ Austin Travis, as both starters went thedistance (6 innings).

Turner authored the win, allowing no runs, no hits, giving up 4walks and fanning 12 American batters.

Travis suffered the loss. He gave up 5 earned runs on 7 hits,issuing 2 base on balls; while striking out 12.
