Brook 14s capture district title

The Brookhaven All-Stars made a clean sweep of the Dixie BoysBaseball 14s District Tournament. They knocked off Natchez 3-0Monday night at Exchange Club Park’s Legion Field, directed bypitcher Ryan Kennedy’s 11-strikeout performance.
The victory advances Brookhaven to the 14s State Tournament atTaylorsville, starting July 21.
“That was a great pitching performance by Ryan Kennedy,” saidBrookhaven head coach/manager Terry Britt. “My kids wanted to win.They never quit.
“I am proud of my kids and their effort,” Britt added. “Theyworked hard and had a desire to win.”
Kennedy didn’t issue a walk but he hit 2 batters. Brookhaven’s3-run sixth gave him all the runs he needed.
In the sixth, Brookhaven got a leadoff single from Matt Magee.Brett Rushing followed with an RBI double and Magee scored for a1-0 lead. Colton Laird followed with an RBI single to score Rushingwho had advanced to third on an error, making it 2-0
Tyler Case hit an RBI single and it was 3-0.
Natchez coach Mike Lazarus said he was disappointed. “We didn’tplay. We didn’t show up.
“Brookhaven has a good squad.” Lazarus said the Natchez 13s hadadvanced to the state tournament last year and should have soagain.
Brookhaven finished with 4 hits. Case, Magee and Michael Martinhad singles.
“Natchez fought us hard,” said Britt. “We will represent ourdistrict as well as we can in the state tournament.”
Britt’s team overcame 5 errors to beat Natchez which committed 4errors.
Jordan Dossett absorbed the loss in relief of Cole Mann whofanned 3 batters. Dossett struck out 5 batters and walked 3.
Dossett, Aaron White and Rudy Lazarus accounted for Natchez’s 3hits.
