Interstate traffic stop nets, marijuana, one arrest

A recent routine traffic stop on Interstate 55 yieldedapproximately 88 pounds of marijuana and lead to the arrest of41-year-old Indiana man, said Lincoln County Sheriff WileyCalcote.

Jose Flores, of Ligonier Ind., was pulled over and ticketed forreckless driving. When looking through the window of the stationwagon Flores was towing, deputies found packages of marijuana inplain sight.

“The dope was just sitting on the back seat there,” Calcotesaid.

Deputies said several pounds of marijuana were packaged in alarge box. Additional packages were laid on the back seat of thewagon.

Deputies found seven large packages of marijuana weighing atotal of 88 pounds.

Information on the incident was not initially released due to acontrolled sting operation that “did not work,” Calcote said.Flores reportedly backed out of an operation in which he woulddeliver the marijuana under surveillance.
