Lady Wolves sweep South Division twinbill with Southwest

SUMMIT — The Co-Lin Lady Wolves swept a South Divisionfastpitch softball doubleheader from the Southwest Lady BearsSaturday afternoon.

Co-Lin (16-6) won the first game 8-0 and the finale 8-4. TheLady Wolves are 3-1 in the division, one game head of Pearl Riverand Gulf Coast.

The Lady Wolves, coached by Allen Kent, host Pear RiverWednesday for a doubleheader. The first game begins at 1 p.m.

“We made 5 errors that really made us look bad,” said Kent. “Wehad a good crowd that followed us to Summit. I want to apologize tothe fans for how bad we played. They came to see us play and we didnot put on a very good showing.

“I was very disappointed by our lack of focus and execution,”added Kent. “We are capable of playing much better.”

Emily Horne hurled a 3-hit shutout. Horne fanned 9 batters andwalked non.

“Emily had another quality outing,” said Kent. “She just givesus a chance to win every time she teaks the mound.

“We had 3 errors and made 4 stupid baserunning mistakes thattook us out of some potentially big innings.”

Powering the Lady Wolves with a double and a single was MeganBateman. Erin Douglass and Horne collected 2 singles apiece.Hitting safely were Jackie Stowe, Kady King, Candice Braxton andAnnie Selman.

Co-Lin 8, Southwest 4

The Lady Wolves were on top 8-0 going into the bottom of theseventh and committed 4 errors along with 2 Southwest hits for 4unearned Lady Bear runs.

Posting the win in the second game was Douglas with 4 runsallowed on 6 hits, 5 strikeouts and 3 walks.

Sophomore Amber Beeson smashed her first home run her career inthe seventh inning. King tripled. Bateman and Smith doubled. Smithsingled twice for an RBI and a run scored. Bateman added 2 hits andan RBI. Ripping a single was Kaylin Burke. Singling were LaceyWilliams, Selman, Douglas, Stowe and Holly Pyles.

“We left 8 runners on base and again had some baserunningmistakes,” stated Kent.
