WESSON — The Co-Lin Wolves and Lady Wolves won a key SouthDivision basketball doubleheader from the Hinds Bulldog teamsThursday night in Mullen Gymnasium.

The Wolves and the Bulldogs were tied 52-all with seconds leftto play. Co-Lin sophomore guard Ivory Dishmon passed off tofreshman center Christian Marshall under the goal who scored thegame-winning field goal with .02 seconds left to play as the Wolvesheld on for the 54-52 win.

“Dishmon did a good job getting the ball to Christian Marshall,”said Co-Lin men’s coach Dennis Sims after the win.

In the women’s game, a trey from sophomore Ashley Murphy set thetone of the game as Co-Lin took the lead in the opening seconds andnever looked back on their way to a 71-60 victory over Hinds.

Co-Lin travels to Pearl River Monday for more division action.The women kick off play at 6 p.m. followed by the men.

Co-Lin 54, Hinds 52

The Wolves (14-6, 9-3) jumped on Hinds (9-14, 6-6) for a7-0 lead in the opening minutes of the first half. At halftime,Co-Lin held a 34-25 lead over Hinds.

“We played a nice first half,” said Sims. “In the secondhalf, Hinds picked up the tempo and we had turnover afterturnover.”

Co-Lin led all the way until Hinds tied the game twicein the final 30 seconds before Marshall scored the winning basketand secured the win.

Sophomore guard Joe Holliday powered Co-Lin with agame-high 20 points. Arvel Keys and Marshall finished with 8 pointsapiece. Keys led off the backboards with 12 rebounds followed byTremaine Enoch with 10.

Hinds, coached by Ralph Moore, was led by Jenario Buntonwith 11 points. Netting 10 points was James Burkes who also ledwith 7 rebounds. Sernell Williams followed with 6rebounds.

Co-Lin 71, Hinds 60

Only once in the first half did the Hinds women tie thegame at 22-all with 4:18 left. Co-Lin freshman guard Whitney Smithresponded with a field goal and freshman forward DominiqueWhitfield went 1-for-2 from the tree-throw line for a quick 25-22lead with 2:48 on the clock. At halftime, the Lady Wolves held aseven-point, 29-22, lead.

“We were kind of flat and sluggish in the first half,”said Co-Lin women’s head coach Gwyn Young. We didn’t playexceptionally well. We scored a lot better in the secondhalf.”

Co-Lin pushed its lead to 23 points, 55-32, with 7:53left to play as Hinds chipped away at the lead but could get nocloser than the final score.

The Lady Wolves improved to 15-5 overall and 11-1 in theSouth. Hinds, coached by Carl Palmer III, fell to 0-12 in the Southand 3-17 overall.

Freshman guard Nikki Williams directed Co-Lin with 15points. Alicia Kennedy fired in 14 points and pulled down 9rebounds. Erica Trahan finished with 11 points and grabbed 9rebounds. Anna Autman and Whitfield collected 8 reboundsapiece.

Hinds got a game-high 24 points from sophomore guardDebra Brown, including 6 treys. Donminique Thomas followed with 16points and pulled down 7 rebounds. Finishing with 11 points wasTiffany Hill.
