BC boys, Enterprise girls triumph

The Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets and the Bogue Chitto Bobcatsposted first-rounds wins Tuesday night in the Division 7-1ABasketball Tournament at Enterprise.
In last night’s games, the Enterprise girls eliminated theNatchez Cathedral Lady Greenies 61-35. The Lady Jackets werepowered by senior Alisha Mason’s 33 points and 14 rebounds. Masonscored 19 points in the first half.
The Bobcats, directed by Alonzo Miner’s 22 points, put away theGreenies 64-58.
Thursday’s semifinals games feature the Bogue Chitto girls vs.West Lincoln at 4 p.m., the Dexter boys vs. West Lincoln at 5:30,the Enterprise girls vs. No. 1 seed St. Aloysius at 7 and the BogueChitto boys vs. No. 1 St. Aloysius at 8:30.
The consolation and championship games will be played Friday.All eight teams advance to the next round of the State 1Aplayoffs.
Enterprise 61, Cathedral 35
The Enterprise girls (11-10) pounded on Cathedral for a 16-9lead in the first quarter. At halftime, the Lady Jackets commandeda 31-11 lead.
“We rebounded a lot better tonight and we played hard like wewanted to win,” said Enterprise girls coach Jill Nations.
Contributing to the Enterprise girls win with 9 points and 6steals was Marquisha Frazier. Lindsey Everett pulled down 9rebounds and had 4 assists. Kacey Rutland finished with 4 stealsand 3 assists.
“We dug ourselves a hole early and could not get out,” saidCathedral girls coach Kathy Graning. “We missed easy shots. Wefought hard all game long. We kept improving all year long and hopeto improve next year.”
Claire Kenda’s 11 points and 4 rebounds paced Cathedral (6-18).Khristian Dobard finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Bogue Chitto 64, Cathedral 58
In the boys game, Bogue Chitto (9-14) trailed Cathedral (11-16)in the first quarter, 17-10. At halftime, the Bobcats had cut thedeficit to 29-24. Going into the final frame, Bogue Chitto’s 17-11run gave the Bobcats a 41-40 lead going into the fourthquarter.
“We played a slow first half, ” said Miner. “We had to pick upthe pace to get our momentum going. We came together and played ourdefense.”
Contributing to the Bogue Chitto win with 21 points, 4 assistsand 1 steal was Dontae Ratcliff. Keyouna Perkins netted 13 points,grabbed 6 rebounds and made 2 steals. Antwain Lyons made 4 stealsand had 3 assists for Andrew Smithie’s team.
“This was an ugly win, but we did a lot better at the end,” saidRatcliff. “We must get ready for the next game.”
Leading Cathedral with 23 points and 19 rebounds was Matt Goss.Andy Lucas and Juan Gray netted 12 points apiece. Lucas grabbed 8rebounds.
“We played well most of the game,” said Cathedral coach PeterArnold. “In the fourth quarter, we made some bad decisions. Weplayed hard. The plays went Bogue Chitto’s way at the end. This wasa good game for both teams.”
