Church program aims to attract young people

Special church services for children ages six to 12 are plannedfor the next several months at Sonshine Avenue.
Operation ROCK (Reaching Out to Children for the Kingdom) is anoutreach program for Abundant Life Church at Sonshine Avenue, thename of the operation’s headquarters building at 313 First St.,said Annitra Richardson, an organizer for the event.
The program opened Jan. 28 at Sonshine Avenue and continuesevery Saturday at 2 p.m. through April.
“The church is going outside the walls to reach children agessix to 12,” Richardson said. “We’d like to see all the churches inBrookhaven become involved.”
Saturday’s program will include special children’s worshipservices followed by contemporary music by volunteers from severalarea churches with games designed to coincide with that week’slessons, Richardson said.
Richardson said the church hopes to expand beyond the LittleItaly community with future programs.
The present location was chosen, she said, because “that’s thearea He placed on our hearts. It’s where God led us.”
