Miner’s treys lift Bobcats over Enterprise boys 66-62

Alonzo Miner is embracing the Bogue Chitto boys basketball teamand the Bobcats are enjoying his presence, too. Miner pumped in 27points Tuesday night, leading the Bobcats to a hard-fought 66-62win over the host Enterprise Yellow Jackets.
Miner, a 6-1 junior, transferred from McComb last December. Hesacked 3 treys in the fourth quarter to fuel BC’s comeback. Miner’strey with 4:35 left to play gave the Bobcats a 56-55 lead.
Nic Hatten and Dante Ratcliff followed Miner with back-to-backtreys, giving BC a 62-58 lead with 1:57 remaining in the game.
“We got on a roll,” said Miner. “We are getting better everygame. I love playing for Bogue Chitto.”
The Bobcats (4-5), coached by Andrew Smithie, trailed Enterprise49-45 entering the fourth quarter. A buzzer-beating trey by forwardChris Fuller had given the Jackets their advantage.
First-year Enterprise coach Josh Bass said he was pleased withhis team’s improvement since last Thursday night’s 20-point, 79-59loss to the Bobcats in the opening round of the Lincoln CountyRound-Robin which was held at Enterprise.
“This was a major improvement from last week,” said Bass. “Theyhad beat us 20 in the county tournament. Our kids played hard.
“We shut down No. 1(Ratcliff) but No. 22 (Miner) stepped up andhit some big ones tonight. We made some critical turnovers andBogue Chitto hit some big threes.”
Matt Floyd led the Jackets (1-7) with 19 points and 9 rebounds.Fuller chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. Corey Everett added 13points and 6 rebounds. Timothy McCoy had 12 points and 4 assists,giving the Jackets 4 players in double figures.
A layup by Enterprise point guard Andrew Williams had pulledEnterprise within 1 point, 59-58, with 2:05 left. Ratcliffresponded with a trey and Miner scored a free throw and a fieldgoal in close for a 65-58 advantage.
Keyounna Perkins led the Bobcats on the backboards with 7rebounds. They sacked 5 fourth-quarter treys.
Junior High Action
In the junior high boys game, Enterprise clipped the Bobcats54-53, directed by Patrick Beaty’s 23 points. Cody White netted 11points, Sam Furr 10 and Thomas Allen 8.
Bogue Chitto got a game-high 38 points from Justin Gaines.Antonio McCray had 4 points.
