Suspect held in shooting

One person remained in jail today following an early Saturdaymorning altercation in which he allegedly shot his brother in thehand, Brookhaven Police Chief Pap Henderson said.

Henderson said the incident between Steven and James Jones, bothof 112 Weems St., started around 1:42 a.m. Saturday after theyarrived home after a night out drinking. Steven Jones, 53, then gota 22-caliber rifle and shot James, 53, in the right index finger,the chief said.

“A family disturbance is what it really was,” Hendersonsaid.

James Jones was taken by ambulance to King’s Daughters MedicalCenter for treatment and was believed to be in good condition, thechief said.

Steven Jones was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.He was still in jail today and was scheduled for a court appearancethis afternoon, Henderson said.

“It’s pretty well ready for court,” the chief said of thecase.
