WESSON – Wesson Volunteer Fire Department officials say newmailbox markers will serve a dual purpose of helping the departmentraise money for equipment and improving response duringemergencies.
Reflective address markers are being sold to raise money for thedepartment’s fire truck and other needs. Mail solicitations weresent out last week, and the $15 markers will be on sale at theVFD’s booth Saturday during the Wesson Flea Market, said ChiefRandall Drane.
“That’s something that’s going to help us or any emergencypersonnel looking for an address,” Drane said.
The markers, with white address numbers, are available in blueor green and may be attached horizontally or vertically to amailbox post.
Drane said the department mailed more than 5,500 letters toWesson addresses last week. He said response to the sale has beengood.
“We got 22 orders this morning,” Drane said Thursday, bringingthe total number of orders to around 30.
Drane said the department is also considering sending letters toresidents in Lincoln County and the rest of Copiah County.
“They’re available to anyone that wants one,” Drane said aboutthe markers.
Following the flea market, Drane said, an order will be placedand the first batch of markers should be ready in about two weeks. He said the markers will then be delivered to homeowners.
